PIOMBINO: FROM FATHER TO SON

24th of April 2014, 10.56 A.M., Lucchini S.p.A.,

one of the biggest iron and steel factory in Italy, turns off the last of their furnace.

The Siderurgica Lucchini SPA factory in Piombino, on April 24, 2014 at 10:56 a.m., shut down its last blast furnace, bringing with it the end of a steelmaking tradition that began in the early 1500s.
The crisis that began during the last decade led to the closure factory permanently and the dismissal of more than 3,000 workers Piombinians and others.
As the town was born with the factory with it has died out.
The town entered a severe economic crisis with the consequent bankruptcy of some local businesses and in doing so foreclosed a future certain for young people.
The possibility of handing down the position in the factory, from father to son, is no longer a security. They unlike their parents have had to look for new jobs.
